What?
Mission Work Camp is a program that allows church and youth groups
the opportunity to reach out with the love of Jesus Christ through
fellowship and service to elderly in local communities. Through
an established connection with the ‘Meals on Wheels’ program
in a local county, we identify elderly who need renovation to
their homes. Being low-income families, they do not have the
funds to make these renovations themselves. The renovation projects
could consist of painting, simple carpentry, yard work, or cleaning.
We begin each morning with worship and group devotion. During
the day, groups are at the work site and in the evening return
to the Calvin Center where recreational activities are provided
each night. Some of those activities include our high ropes course,
canoeing, archery, and swimming. Wednesdays are open for your
own planned event such as the local Six Flags or Stone Mountain.
Where?
Our Mission Work Camps are based out of the Calvin Center in
Hampton, Georgia and groups use the facilities on site. Teams
stay in our
cabins equipped with their own bathroom and shower. Our mission
work teams travel to local communities such as Griffin, Georgia
to their
assigned work site.
When?
We have an established work camp during the summer months (June-August)
but can also accommodate groups wanting to serve at various times
of the year. Spring Break, Fall Break, and weekends allow alternative
opportunities.
Our summer programs allow one-week sessions starting on Sunday
evenings and ending on Saturday mornings.
Who?
Most of our programs are designed for middle and high school youth groups. Though, we are open to any group that wants to serve in this
fashion. We have incorporated groups of adults for such projects as well. Teams do not have to be skilled, just willing to work.
We provide skilled supervisors for the job as well as the materials and the tools.
