Position: Life Guard
Reports to: Waterfront Director

Purpose of Position

To provide lifeguarding service during scheduled swim times, swimming instruction and support for other pool related programs. Responsible for the care and maintenance of the pool, its showers and pump house.

Qualifications

  • Be of sound Christian faith and good Christian Character
  • Must be a graduated senior in High School
  • Must have a Red Cross Life guarding certification or appropriate equivalent
  • Have exceptional ability to understand and relate well to others - especially children
  • Have exceptional ability to listen to and communicate with others - a people person
  • Be a team player. Be Flexible. Be positive, outgoing, and enthusiastic
  • Is extremely alert and safety conscious
  • Be self-motivated and able to complete duties with minimal supervision
  • Wiling to participate in and or lead camp activities
  • Be patient, sensitive and accepting of oneself and of others
  • Wiling to do whatever benefits The Calvin Center and the summer camp program

Relationship

  • All positions are under the supervision of Waterfront Director.
  • Work directly under the supervision for the Waterfront Director
  • Works alongside counselors and resource staff

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to the following)

  • Safety of Campers and Staff while participating in Waterfront program primary
  • Perform "Swim Tests"
  • Guard during Swim Times
  • Maintain log of Chemical levels in pool (under Waterfront Directors supervision)
  • Keep pool area neat and orderly
  • Daily Cleaning of Pool (Vacuum, skim, sweep etc.)
  • Supervise water safety regulations and emergency procedures
  • Life Guard for canoes
  • Reside on-site for the summer program, sharing a residence with other camp staff. Unless otherwise discussed with Program Director.
  • Attend all staff meetings. Attend all meals.
  • Attend all Pavilion games unless otherwise discussed with Waterfront Director
  • Assists with check-in and checkout procedures.
  • Attend all All-Camp Activities unless otherwise discussed with Waterfront Director.
  • Perform other duties as designated by Waterfront Director and Program Director
