Purpose of Position
This position would be desirable for those people who have experience working with horses and have either completed or are currently studying for a degree in the equestrian field. Furthermore an interest in children and young people would be advantageous, along with concentration for working with people with disabilities.

It is preferred that the person be at least 18 years old. And at least one year of college completed. However this is not always necessary

KEY SKILLS

  • Relevant experience in...
    1. Teaching and facilitating recreational riding.
    2. Teaching and facilitating therapeutic riding

    4. Schooling of horses.
    5. Therapeutic riding experience.
  • Be able to work well with children and young people and have relevant experience in doing so.
  • Able to maintain a good balance between working with horses and then children and young people.
  • Able to work well in a team, and also part of a larger camp team.
  • Able to demonstrate a growing relationship with God.

The horse camp staff is hired to work with the horses and the care of them. In addition to this the staff has vast responsibility in instruction and teaching of riding to the campers and therapy clients.

Horse staff is expected to assist and interact with campers on a regular basis. However at times the staff will be just working with the horses and the equestrian director.

The program with the campers is based around instruction, (according to level of experience) trail riding and some schooling.

The counselor would be responsible to the Equestrian Program Director for matters concerning the horses, and Camp Program Director for all other matters.

This position is a summer position only and begins in late May with 10 days of staff training. The summer concludes in late July. The week starts on Sunday at 1pm and then concludes generally early Friday evening.
